Touch down! Sick shoe game, Chad...

Hmm...I can admire a man that isn't afraid to take his shoes too seriously... Chad Johnson. Chad Ochocinco. The guy that plays for the Cincinatti Bengals. The guy that tried his luck in bull riding. What ever you want to call him, he's got style.

Oh the Hosiery...

Photo courtesy of http://www.shine.yahoo.com-melville/ - Toby Melville- WPA Pool/Getty Images)
During my daily glance at Yahoo's featured stories, I noticed groundbreaking news..."Kate Middleton sparks another trend". What is the next big thing the Dutchess of Cambridge is deciding to sway the world in to? PANTYHOSE. Pantyhose? This is not a trend I plan to duplicate with temperatures in my 'neck of the woods' (you can tell from that statement alone that I'm in a greusomely hot state in the south) reaching as high as 102F. Call me 'uncouth'.

Mad for Mullets!

Apr 2008-Jada Pinkett-Smith rocking the resurrected mullet.
picture courtsey of sandrarose.com

When I think of all the 80's inspired trends that have been resurrected: leggings, oversized shirts, mini skirts, huge earrings, I can also think of some not-so favorited trends that I refuse to think can't be done without looking crazy...except shoulder pads! Sometimes when I'm bored I google random people when I see them on television. Jada Pinkett-Smith just happened to be one of those lucky souls, considering I've been thinking all things "HawthoRNe". Sidenote: If you're not waching TNT's "HawthoRNe", starring and executive produced by Pinkett-Smith, shoot yourself! <---Just kidding!

As I was going through photos of the seasoned actress, I could not pass on one of her donning a side mullet. When I think of mullet, words such as: class, prestige, and sophistication don't really cross my mind. Instead my think-tank concentrates more on words such as: greasy, rock n' roll bad***, and Slater, our favorite wrestling, dimpled boyfriend (well mine) from tv's "Saved by the Bell".

These days, I'm not seeing much of the haircut, but Jada is convincing me to try a 2011 mullet of my own. She is definitely making it work for her. What do you think? What 80's trend are you rocking? Which would you prefer to stay in that decade?

Cameron, those shoes are "Bad"!

Hungover Halsy: Cameron Diaz in the official
 "Bad Teacher" movie poster.

Yesterday, I went to a screening of "Bad Teacher" with Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake. Let me just say it was just as hilarious as I thought it would be! If you don't know the plot: Cameron Diaz plays Elizabeth Halsey, a severely underachieving, alcoholic, "medicinal" smoking, self-consumed,  unlucky gold digger that happens to be a seventh grade English teacher. After being dumped by her last claim to financial freedom, Halsey sets her sites on the new quirky, happy-go-lucky substitute teacher (Timberlake) which is loaded! There is only one thing getting in Ms. Halsey's way...a new set of breasts which she thinks will bump her up a few notches on the hotness meter. She goes to some desperate lengths to get the cash for her new ta-tas. She ultimately gets the crazy idea to actually start teaching--to win a bonus!

Diaz shines as any syncial, cold-hearted chick would, but the fashion is on the same playing  field. I've never seen any of my seventh grade teachers wear any ensembles resemblance of the ones Diaz rocked. Her red bottom shoes aka Christian Louboutins are not to be missed and they're in practically every scene. It's hard to imagine how a middle school teacher can afford the pricy, super chic heels. When she starts falling on rough times, so do her shoes.

Hmm...just wondering when a lucky girl like me will get her first Louboutins. Doesn't hurt to dream.

Rihanna, Bieber, and a bottle of perfume...

I feel bad for neglecting all 5 of my fans. lol I've been out of touch lately. That thing called life is always catching up on my tail like the firing of a match, but I promise to communicate more to you. Communication is key to every relationship, even the one between a blogger and her fans (keep in mind that I only have 5!)

What I must discuss is my recent purchase of Cosmopolitan's July issue with my girl RiRi gracing the cover with her Princess Ariel, under the sea locks. I mean no harm. Wait, wait now. Don't call me a meanie. But I can't help but make that comparison .

The Rihanna interview was everything that I expected: The pop diva depicting herself as a no non-sense taking, bad chick. What was more informative from this issue wasn't even an interview or a story, but an advertisement. I'll give you a hint: Bieber. Before you start guessing how Bieber's changing locks or disney relationship to Ms. Selena Gomez can possibly be news to Cosmo, I'll set you free from the torcherous guessing. Apparently Justin Bieber has joined the celebrity branding campaign by introducing to the world....don don ta donnn....a perfume? Yes!  Bieber is selling a women's fragrance so brillantly titled "Someday". Leave it to Bieber.  I'm no big fan of the whole idea, the ad, nor even the scent! But I'm sure Selena is keeping "Someday" on always for her Bieber beau.

Check out the ad for yourself:

Selena's look: hot or scolding?

Selena Gomez at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. May 22.

Selena Gomez, AKA Justin Beiber's girlfriend, definitely took home the best dressed award for the night. With everyone else's odd, overdone, or underdone looks, it was nice to see someone do it just right. Or did she? When I look at this outfit, I don't see 17. And she is 17. The cutouts and high slit seem too risque for the Disney star. The Mariah Carey reminiscent look just doesn't work for me for Gomez.

.

What do you think? Is this outfit too mature for a 17- years-old?

Before you really take to heart what I say, take a look of me at my senior prom. Keep in mind that I was 18 and I wasn't a Disney star with fans as young as three.

Me and my date on prom night in 2007.

Is my prom look too much for an 18-year-old?

Is Bey running it or what?

A pic from "Run the World (Girls)"

I was super excited when I heard that Beyonce was coming out of her hiding place after her two year hiatus from music. I've been seeing pics of her all over the net perusing in different countries and such. It's nice to her voice on the radio for a change. I must admit that I was initially  a little disappointed at my first listen to  her first single off her new album, "4". "Run the World (Girls)" seems to be a bit all over the place. I also can't help but think that this song should've been sang by Willow Smith and I knew I was on to something when my fav Youtubers "The Skorpion Show with Kevin and Makael" agreed to my thoughts as well. Bey definitely isn't a "girl", plus we already know that she runs the world--well at least music.  Plus, there are too many elements for an ADD self-diagnosed chick like me. Her octaves weren't cohesive and the transitions had me lost.

Nonethless, I absolutely love Beyonce and her video to the song! If you missed Ms. B's video to her single "Diva" from the "I am...Sasha Fierce", watch it. It's the prelude to this for sure. The scene of her torching the car after she takes a puff from a cigar (not advocating smoking at all) is marked embedded in my memory. "Diva" was a statement, but "Run the World" is the movement.  Might I add that I love the Alexander McQueen and Givenchy threads from the vid.

question: Do you like the video, the song, or both. Where are the Beystans?... Click the link to watch the movement.

*** I started this post before I seen Ms. Bey's Billboard Music Awards performance on Sunday, May 22, 2011. She nailed it! I'm still not sold on "Run the World", but I will continue supporting my favorite singer of today. Better believe I will be front in center to buy "4" on  June 28th!

Can I find anything else to obsess over besides shoes? In my own defense, an amazing pair of shoes can spice up any plain outfit. Plus, even if you gain five pesky pounds they will still fit unlike that hot dress you still have from your senior prom four years ago (true story) tucked in the back of your closet. I guess I'm like Toni Collette's character in the movie "In her Shoes". My favorite line from that movie when she says, "When I feel bad I like to treat myself. Clothes never look any good... food just makes me fatter... shoes always fit."

While we are quoting pure geniusness. Check out a few other brilliant shoe quotes:

"If the shoe doesn't fit, we must change the foot" --Gloria Steinman

"It's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes -- that's why you sometimes need really special shoes!”--Sex and the City

"Momma always says there's an awful lot you could tell about a person by their shoes. Where they're going. Where they've been. I've worn lots of shoes. I bet if I think about it real hard I could remember my first pair of shoes. Momma said they'd take me anywhere. She said they was my magic shoes." --Forest Gump

"If the shoe fits, buy it in every color"--Author unknown

"What becomes of the broken-hearted? They buy shoes"--Mimi Pond

How to Dress for those Playdates with the Kids...

Actresses Halle Berry and Garcelle Beauvais show single moms
how to look fab even with adorable accessories such as kiddos!

The days of mom jeans are long gone. Women are learning to unleash their inner stylist even when accompanied by the kids. Looking your best doesn't have to be such a challenge anymore. Your children aren't your hindrance, they are truly a blessing. So no excuses! Embrace them and carry on!

Here are a few tips for dressing for a playdate:

1.) No white. Think about it. White+kids+dirt+popsicles+bugs+whatever little critters or "lucky charms" your kids bring you=HOT MESS! Every mom knows to stay away from this color when dealing with kids, no matter how cute the outfit is.

2.) Limit Accessories. With kids tugging everywhere possible there is bound to be an accident; whether that be the death of your favorite pair of earrings or a broken clasp on that cute necklace that seems to match your entire wardrobe. Trust me I have learned from much experience, just be careful.

3.) Carry a Posh Bag. These are your bigger hand bags ladies. You can fit almost anything and everything in one, from moist toilettes to a first aid kit/items. (I even put my actual purse or wallet inside which is a thumbs up in my book). And these days Posh Bags come in so many cute styles and colors you might find yourself carrying them regularly.

4.) Be Comfortable Cute. If you are like me, children work you out regardless, if you want to or not. (And to think I only have a four year old) Therefore if there is a time limit on the shoes you want to wear (meaning they start to irritate or hurt after a few hours) don’t wear them. Wear a comfortable running shoe or sandal. And who said all jeans are comfortable because they are not. Find something that fits your comfort level. These days there is so much to choose from, for example track separates better known as a glorified jogging suit, work great for these occasions.

New Thrifty Finds

As mentioned, I love sharing my new finds. Today's finds come from my local Goodwill right down the street. I manage to snag 3 bags and a necklace for a little over $10.00! Love it. You must dedicate time in trying to find treasures in secondhand stores and as always i had little to spare. :/

I absolutely had to get this "clutch" (it has a strap but I plan to use it as a clutch) to match my BCBGirls faux multi-colored alligator heels. Almost a perfect match, too! Not bad for $3, huh?

I couldn't stop at just one (not even two for that matter!). I'm known for carrying huge big bags to fit my entire life in. When I saw this denim bag (strap included), I had to snatch it up for company to my many other "luggages"! At $5, I've got money left over for more denim craze.

I'm interested to seeing your thrift shop finds. Email me pics.

21st Century Girl

Click here to watch Willow Smith;s video for "21st century girl"
Willow Smith, aka Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith's daughter and Karate Kid, Jaden Smith's sister, has got to be the coolest 10-year-old I've ever laid eyes on. Other than her famous kin, this little style icon in the making is known for at least two other big factors. 1. Her sweet yet outspoken vocals, such as her breakout "Whip my hair" that came out the end of last year. 2. Her edgy and style-risked attire (risky not to be confused with risque). She's been spotted rocking coifs from long, Rapunzel braids to wild poufy mohawks. Color is defintely her best friend (sounds like some I know...me)

In Smith's newest record, you can't help but hear Rihanna's Only Girl in the World and       Kesha-like vocals. speaking of Rihanna, it's hard not to make the comparison of her and Smith. The vocals, the style, the attitude. Can we say Deja vu? The video is playful and edgy yet age appropriate. The little sassy pre-teens as her entourage/backup dancers are adorable as well.  At the sweet age of 10, she's already established herself as one top-climbing ecletiCHICk.

Tickled Pink!

Here Brooklyn Decker was seen at the Met Gala Red Carpet event wearing Michael Kors from head to toe... Tickled Pink. This dress is sure to put a smile on your face, while coining the phrase "Pink is the new black". It highlights the Spring season at its best.  Color is a “must have” in your closet. Not to mention it is an easy essential that keeps things spontaneous and your audience guessing.

New Boutique Alert

So much to choose from...I'll take that...and that...and two of those!

Colors that P-P-POP!

Check out this new cute little boutique in Little Rock on Rodney Parham (in the shopping area right next to Sally's Beauty Supply)

The layout of the store is open, fresh, and fun.  I had the intentions on just getting some studs, but I was in a rush so I couldn't shop the way I wanted to.  Trust me I will be back this weekend to buy those items on my mental wish lists...hint: it's sparkly and goes on your wrist! With limited quantities in each item creates a bit of exclusiveness. Check this out ladies for your fashion needs! Tell them Britt sent you!

Denim is back, baby

Keira Knightley knows how to rock her denim
photo: courtesy of teen vogue

So guess what you know that denim jacket that you have in your closet from way back way back? Well start pairing them with girly florals or make a color contrast with your wardrobe. I picked me one up from Old Navy ($25) about a few months before I've taken the notice of this timeless staple this spring.

There are a few No-No's I try to follow when pairing denim together

1) Don't overload. The whole denim suit thing is not particularly cute. Your denim should be complimentary to your outfit, not the controlling piece.
2. Don't match denims. If you are going to do denim don't try match them. Wear contrasting pieces.
3) Don't oversize (or under size). You can't go wrong with clothes that actually fit. I made the mistake of buying a jacket that was too big. It looked less fashionable and more hobo chic...unless that's your style...

While we are on the subject of denim I must share these Rachel Roy's that had to buy. I'm always excited to buy shoes. I have some great stories. It's like a mommy talking about her babies. So, the day before I left for my vacation to Mexico, I decided to do some last minute shopping to get some flip flops. I've always noticed this store called Shoe Woo, but I was afraid that they would not coincide with my budget. On this particular day, I decided to pop in. And that's when it happened. I fell in love... <3 <3 <3 I saw them just staring at me. A definite Shoegasm! Shoe Woo wasn't as expensive as I thought. These babies were worth every penny of $138.00 ($129.00 before taxes)! They are statement shoes for sure. Standing at 4.5inches high. Keep in mind I am 5'7. You will definitely see me coming in the room! Tell me if you find a great denim vest that I can pair my new loves with...

Wait…Are those from payless?

Wait…Are those from payless?
So here lately I’ve been noticing something from dear ole’ Payless Shoes Source…their shoes are getting remarkably stylish. Customers have a lot to look forward to from this season’s of colorful soles. Payless has been known for their affordable prices. The company’s products have seen a more stylish makeover in recent years. The bump up of prices may have some eye rolling to dig a little deeper in their pockets, but all the while worth it. Designers such as Project Runway’s Christian Siriano, Lela Rose, Isabel Toledo, and other hot "soleful" designers make up the designer collection for that girl that likes to take risk with playful designs, color blocking, patterns, polka dots, nautical stripes, and so much more. Payless has something for every EcletiCHICk. After all, a  girl has to have options.

The Isabel Toldeo line is an edgy, art deco inspired collection that is definitely for that girl that likes making bold, eccentric statements with her looks.  Perhaps when first lady Michelle Obama wore a pair of the Toledos on the national inauguration day, the line then got a chance to boom with Payless. The only apprehension that I had before buying these babies was that I thought since they are made out of a “soft, woven design”,so any murky water or mud would send them to the ER with the quickness. But I was glad to know that any ole shoe cleaner got them back to brand new. I've already began pairing these with colorful florals and stripes.
P.S. These nautical shoes are also available in a kitten heel for a practical office look! Either way…I needed them in my life, do you? http://www.payless.com/store/
