Airport Chic!

Bey always knows how to rock first class looks.

I get so envious of looking through People of celebs looking like pure perfection as they photographed out traveling. For one, I wish I could be "Anywhere, but Here" sometimes. Have you seen that movie with Natalie Portman and Susan Sarandon? I digress. And two, I always look like the epitome of a hot mess when I travel. Let's stop looking a hot mess and get some celebrity inspiration while we're ripping the runway! The holidays are here, so get airport chic, E-CHICks.

XO Britt

Stil- or Sneak-?
What do you think? I would say the most comfortable choice would be the obvious sneaker, but who needs comfort when you've got style?!  If you must compromise, try a chic riding boot.

Layers of love.

Are you going to a location with a drastic weather shift? Last spring break I was freezing on the way back from the airport in Bermuda shorts and sandals on the way back from Puerto Vallarta. Layers keep you prepared for anything.

Oversize me.

Skip the small digs. Go big with a cute carry-all to fit all your divine, diva travel musts! Just try to keep all your important travel documents in a place of their own.

Just in case...

Keep a change of clothes in your carry all. Who is not to say there will be unexpected, lengthy layovers or accidents on your venture. You don't want to be stuck in the airport with juice soaking in your blouse like a five-year-old.

Superstar Status

No celebrity-inspired airport ensemble would be complete without some Hollywood "No photos, please" sunglasses. This can prevent others from seeing the sleep in your eyes from that four hour flight.

I can't wait to travel in style on my next rendezvous with Little Rock Adams Field Airport. Next vacay: Spring Break. Viva La Mexico! Can it come any faster !

Forever Lazy, Forever Crazy

As Seen On TV
Forever Lazy

So these "As seen on TV" products have managed to make even more ridiculous products. I was so on Team Snuggie a couple of years ago and I still even use mine from time to time, but these recent "must-haves" have fallen on the weirdo track. If you managed to escape the zany commercials of goofy-faced people 'raising the roof' wearing assorted colors of the personal sleeved blanket sensation than you must have not owned a television. So the Forever Lazy, which is jumper fulfilling all of your blanket needs, has the same general concept as the Snuggie, but it tops it in the "WTH" factor. What's the funniest part of these commercials is the usage for it. You can wear your Forever Lazy at home watching tv, studying, or even tailgating! Tailgating? I just about died from laughing watching grown folks wearing cozy jumpsuits  drinking in the out of doors at a game. The craziest part about the Forever Lazy? It has a back flap for making trips to the  restroom easier. I can't believe they are even serious with this one!

Watch the ridiculous commercial HERE.

Will a Forever Lazy be on your Christmas list this year?

Smiles and Kisses

A million Smiles doesn't compare to that Big Kiss"
photo by Little Miss Famous Photography
.
A lot of my clothing make me look much younger that I truly am (I'll be 23 on the 23rd!). What can I say? I'm a kid at heart.  I still like rocking Chuck Taylor's with my legging jeans and even throwing up messing ponytails. I'll be 23 next week, but my fashion style sometimes likes to linger in the kiddie poIe. I dressed this graphic screen tee with a Blazer for a more grown up appeal. Believe it or not it's a JOE Boxer sleepwear shirt, but my eyes couldn't tell between nightshirt or Night Shirt! Clearance rack at $4. It still amazes me how cheap I can score my clothes. So get those silly tees and band t-shirts out that bottom drawer and start dressing them up a bit. Right pair of jeans and stiletto heel will surely do the trick.

Where to shop for the best band shirts?

http://www.hottopic.com/ or the nearest store.

Get your swap on!

Quick snap shot while setting up the Compassion
Fashion Project' s  "Your friend's closet" clothing swap
event. Fashion for a cause--Love it!

The Compassion Fashion Project hosted a clothing swap benefitting the Women and Children First shelter last week. It was a great party for a great cause. And you too can do it!
Want to host your own clothing swap? It's a wonderful excuse to hang out with your friends with some food, fashion, and fun sipping!

1. My space, your space.

Your home or a close friend's makes fun an ideal, intimate space for hosting your little soiree. make sure there is room for you and your girls to stretch your legs while getting your fashionista on--and eat on if you're like my friends and I.

2. Who's Invited?

Make a list of close friends, family, and co-workers that you think would come. Try to keep a variation in style, age, and size for a more diverse gathering. Send your invites via Facebook or some other social networking site for an easy click.

3. Take a cue from CFP!

Join in the efforts to save the world--or at least your community-in stilletos. Ask guests to bring a $5.00 admission in to the clothing swap to  give to a chose charity or organization.

4. Organization is key.

Use a large table or clothing rack to separate clothing items in categories. Be sure to include a full-length mirror for a nice touch to your little consignment shop!

5. Don't forget to eat--

Girls Night In wouldn't be complete without some delicious appetizers and...wine! You don't have to go all out and cater. For a more economical touch, tell everyone it's a potluck!

6. Keep a tracking system.

Make sure no one leaves with more items than they come out with. i like how the Compassion Fashion Project's number system. They assigned numbers  based on vintage/designer appeal, pants/shirts, dresses, etc. Try to come up with your own rules based on the number of people who show up. Chances your friends will be fair and not fight over items...hopefully.

7. GO SWAP!

Your Friend's Closet-- Clothing Swap!

Cute monogrammed shopping bag
that was made available
to excited swappers.
I had the honor of assisting Meredith Corning, Director and founder of The Compassion Fashion Project, and her bubbly staff during their clothing swapping event. The organization has bloomed from a blog to a pillar in the community. They really commit to their mantra: Saving the world in stilettos! The event, which was held last Thursday at Bar Louie in the Pleasant Ridge Shopping Center, benefited the Women and Children First shelter in Little Rock, AR. Several hundred dollars and over $1,100 was raised during the two-hour soiree.  Future Goals for the CFP: going global, baby!

Mini Me

Twist of Line Rust Red Skirt
$25
Shop Here
P.S. Don't you just love
the Jeffrey Campbell bootie.
Ahh ©

Of course summer has came to a close, but don't be quick to throw those minis to the attic just yet. "Fall" them up a bit. Add texture with some rich hues, tights, leggings, and boots. Add a cardigan to age up  those minis.  When I think of the mini skirt, I think of two different types of connotations. 1. Daring and skanky 2. Daring and sassy. Aiming for sassy is always my agenda. Lulus.com (www.lulus.com) is showing you how to stretch those barely there skirts until you can't no more--which is a long time if you play your cards right.

Matching is passe...

Our E-CHICk, Larnie modeling her own clothing. Don't
you just love her print collaborations?!
photo by Little Miss Famous Photography
So my all-time least favorited questions to hear from those resolving their style challenges is, "Does this match?". I can't tell you how much this simple yet naive question gets under my skin. I am a person that refuses to have to sterotypically match my style choices. Who am I matching for? I like to throw on things that make me feel good. I put as much effort into matching my clothes as I do ironing. And I haven't used an iron in ages. I'm not trying to be tiptoe around with my color palettes and prints just so someone else's eye can feel more at ease. Why not be bold? State your claim today just for a day, E-CHICKS: "I [insert name] will not overly extend myself to "match" my clothing. I know that this is a bold claim to make and some of you wouldn't dare, but what are you losing?

Havana Crossbody Bag-Gray

Chelsea Bucket Bag-Tan

Havana Crossbody Bag-Mint
$48

I'm the biggest fan of the carry-all bag that's big enough to stuff your kitchen sink, but I've discovered a new love: the shoulder bag. They are small, but still big enough to squeeze in the necessities. You may have to evaluate the importance of each item in your current purse, but you'll see that it's all worth it. No more switching arms tugging around that suitcase of a bag. No strap slips so shopping around town becomes a lot easier. Did you check my favorite shoulder bags from NastyGal.com? Love them. Happy Shopping!

"You can't mix silver with gold!" --"Watch me!"

I'm loving this spin on the 80's inspired rope chain.
Perfect for the indecisive
gold or silver battles!
necklace: Princess Breeze Boutique

I'm not a fan of those unwritten fashion rules that force you to pick one over the other of anything. I'm the "I want to have my cake, eat it, and not gain any weight" kind of girl! So when I'm forced to choose between silver and gold accents---I don't. Don't be afraid of mixing those tones ladies. The fashion police doesn't exist. Be as dangerous as you want to be. Still afraid choose a piece that compliments different tones, so you don't have to choose. Moderation is the key to everything, so don't overload, unless you are going for that Gotti Princess look. Ciao Bellas! Muah...

Why every girl needs to meet Levi

535 Leggings
Is there any outfit these jeans don't work with?!

I should be the spokeperson for Levi's! If there is one jean that I would totally endorse, it'd be this one. Founded in 1853, they've had time to get it right at making you look good. It's hard for me stuff my size13 goods in "skinny girl" jeans. And why should I? Levi's never make me feel like I'm stuffing. They fit incredible to my shape. They are slimming, comfortable, and stylish. I'm a multi-sensory girl, if you know what I mean. Did I mention that I never spend over $50 with them? Go check out their Curvee id fit, you curvy chicks!

Beyonce goes MOD--so can YOU!

It's all in the eyes.

Last evening Beyonce debuted her video for "Countdown". I'm loving the Audrey Hepburn's Funny Face look, the make-up, the chic bobs and bags, and all the other mod theatrical references. Again, when I heard "Countdown" after immediately ripping open the "4" album I did not come close to envisioning this video. I admire how she's not letting pregnancy slow her down. Why didn't we see a baby in the making with lyrics such as "I'm trying to make us three / From that two / He's still the one", before her big preggo debut at the MTV Video awards a few months ago. Are you thinking you can't possibly afford to copy and paste Beyonce's cutesy looks? Guess again. Most of the fashion was by American Apparel, an inexpensive, affordable, accessible brand and even Forever 21 to create a mod look.

Mod, which had its birth during the late 1950's and early 1960's in England, is quite simple style to achieve. All you have to make sure is you keep funky, geometrical shapes in those mini dresses, sex up those men shirts, and keep those jeans tailored with a vintage twist. Makeup is a big part of the mod style. Bat wings and long lashes and eyeliner creates a fun, flirty look. Don't forget those cardigans, knee high boots, loafers, and thick headbands.

Still having trouble with 'modding' it up? Check these movies out for a little inspiration:

What the Fringe!

Alright, boho sisters! Fringe has came back around this Fall season. The great thing about fringe is that it can accessorize just about everything from pants, tops, boots, and bags. Is that Ri or M.Monroe?

Pure Glam.
Rihanna's British Vogue cover

I had to double take to really see if this was RiRi! She completely nailed this Marilyn Monroe-esque look for British Vogue's November Issue. She made the look all her own. Inside the issue Rihanna discusses the norms: relationships, career, and style in a "controversial and loud" interview with Christa D'Souza. Although she apparently took a cue from some old Hollywood glam,  I absolutely love that Rihanna has a style of her own. You never know what to expect. To me this was better than Lindsay Lohan's homage to the late starlet in New York magazine in 2008. I think it's because of her comparisons of herself to Monroe. She had much to say about how much she and Monroe have in common in the foreword of Susan Bernard's new book Marilyn: Intimate Exposures. "People in their mind have created who I am and act as if there is no real person inside of me. Just like Marilyn." She adds that she wants to be know for her talent rather than her troubled personal life just as Marilyn. with that being said, show us Lohan!

Kanye's "Dw"

photo courtesy of the Wall Street Journal, Associated Press

Over the weekend hip hop reigning champ,  Kanye West debuted his new women's clothing line "Dw" in Paris during Paris Fashion Week in a packed house which included celebs such as Lindsay Lohan, Ciara, and the Olsen twins. I knew he was in to fashion, but never knew he was that self-assured to try his hand at dressing women. The collection recieved mixed reviews. The Times called the clothing "confusing" and "poor fitting", whilst The Wall Street Journal liked the use of leather, but they did knock off points by directly saying that "A vast quantity of luxury materials can't blind people to a lack of creative marksmanship".  West must be a 'boob man' because there were lots of plunging necklines. Other than the overuse of leather,  weird buckles and an interesting pair of open-toed sweater shoes (the wildest oxymoron I've ever heard!), and even an odd looking furry backpack. You get the idea that most of the pieces aren't on the practical side, so the chances of you sporting these clothes around the office are pretty slim. I must say that I wasn't expecting this line, but even more so a modest, insecure Kanye saying, "I'm so scared, I'm so nervous" in regards to his showcase. Nonetheless, I can defintely see a female Kanye wear these pieces!

The clothes are do to hit the streets Spring/Summer 2012. Tell me your thoughts on the line, named Dw after his late mother Donda West who passed in 2007. Honest knee jerk reactions only! :)

Faux Fur Zip-Front Jacket $138.00
Lace-Banded-Bottom Blouse $49.90

NO WHITE AFTER LABOR DAY. I don't know who had the idea that we must treat white as the sloppy drunk guy that we had fun in the club, but when we got home ditched his digits in the trash and forgot about him until the next rendezvous at the club. Keeping white in your wardrobe can only benefit you. It is something uber-chic about mixing whites with other neutrals in those Fall and Winter months. The trick is not to completely white wash your looks. Add some texture and fun, such as adding bold prints and  faux fur like Express so brilliantly paired together. Take advantage that the cold seasons give you a chance to rock all your clothing. All your have to do is brainstorming when it comes to layering your pieces.

NOT! Woman can do anything better than man. And that means rock his style. Play with a nice pair of trousers and add some suspenders for fun look this fall. Sure we could just use a belt to keep our britches up, but this is more fun!  Don't know where to find them? Go sneak in your grandfather's closet. Shhh. We won't tell.

What are your favorite men-inspired looks?

Sparkle, Shine, Shimmy...SEQUINS is Baaack!

Less is more.
Check this top from Fashion Vault (local)
http://www.shopfashionvault.com/

This Fall has got so many trends up his sleeve! Sequins is one of those trends. It's not just for Las Vegas showgirls and your past 60 grandmother! Wearing sequins is all about quantity and timing. Don't sparkle from head to toe. You don't want to look like a disco ball or a giant piece of wrapped candy. Wearing sequins is similar to the "color pop" trend. It shouldn't be so predicticable and matchy.  When it comes to timing, you don't want to bust out the major sparklies before 6pm. The sun brings enough bling on its own. I'd love to see your sequinned looks, ladies. Share your pics and shiny thoughts at eclectichicks@gmail.com  Be careful, you don't want to blind anyone!

Pulling off Game Day Looks--in style! by Alexa

Meet Alexa:
My stylish co-worker
from RK Collections!

Razorbacks, Bears, and Trojans, oh my! If you're an Arkansas fan, you know how we get down in college sports.  A college game day is the best way for a girl to make a Fall fashion statement. Football season usually opens Fall, thus making it the ideal place for showcasing those game day looks. Any girl can go grab a t-shirt and some jeans and call it a day, but the Eclectichicks that put thought behind their looks are the ones to be remembered. I mean, come on, no one wants to run into a girl wearing the exact same outfit and feel the need to avoid her for the rest of the day.  I always try to put a spin on my game day fits so I don't run into my "outfit twin" while tailgating. Create your own fashion identity with these game-day tips, and I promise you'll go down in tailgate fashion history, or at least get the most viewed pictures on Facebook.

 RULES OF THE GAME:

1. COMFORT
2. STYLE
3. INDIVIDUALITY
4. SPIRIT

The number one rule I can give you for game day wear is comfort. You have to be comfortable if you want to enjoy yourself. Come on ladies, pulling on that strapless dress that is a little too big for hours on end is a complete downer! You have to pick an outfit that makes you feel like a million bucks! So what kind of outfit am I talking about you may ask? You have plenty of options!

Being an employee at RK Collections in the Promenade at Chenal, I have seen many frantic "game day" shoppers desperately trying to find that perfect look for their game days. At RK Collections, we have plenty of great options for any school! You little Razorbacks listen up: Red jeans are a must for this season! Not only is red a great color for Fall, it is also amazing for calling in the HOGS in style! These red jeans below are made by REUSE and are super comfy! This definitely sticks to my comfort rule!

You can find these at RK Collections
at the Promenade on Chenal in
Little Rock, AR
Another option for your game day attire is to get a one of a kind creations made from your favorite team's t-shirt!  FAN FROCKS is a local company in Arkansas that recreates your favorite tees into a cute tube top of dress! I am in love with this company. I have to put my order for some great things for my Trojan (University of Arkansas at Little Rock) basketball. Don't fret if you're not in AR because Chelsea Silvestri, the owner of the company, is glad to do work for all your favorite team parapherenalia.

An exclusive piece from FAN FROCKS

Girl, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to discussing game day fashions! If you are on a budget, go get your favorite team's t-shirt from a nearby store. Grab a pair of scissors and do some major creative clipping, such as cutting the sides and tying them together. As long as you're creative and stand out from the crowd, you'll be golden!

How to Create Your Own Celebrity Closet

So yesterday, I was checking out http://www.dulcecandy.com/. This girl is a serial fashionista! Her post about her closet/office made me green with envy. After a long day of work, how awesome would it be to relax in this domain. CAUTION: EXTREME JEALOUSY IS LIKELY TO OCCUR IN ABOUT .5 SECONDS!

Dulce isn't the only girl that refuses to make her fabulousness indure beauty sleep in anything less than an absolute dream closet. Celebrities such as Kimora Lee Simmons, Paula Abdul, and Mariah Carey share the same take on this pressing issue. Might I add, that fashion justice was well served!

Now that you've pined over these insanely gorgeous closets, it's time for you to create your own. Use a spare bedroom or downsize that king bed to a full size or better yet kick that roommate out that can never come up with her half of the rent. I can think of ways to use that extra bedroom (hint, hint). The most important element in making this dream a reality is...ORGANIZATION! Everything has a place. Try to keep themes going such as hats over here, shoes over there, etc. Here's a shopping list to get you going:

1. shelves, shelves, shelves
2. clothing racks/fixtures
3. jewelry countertop stands
4. pretty cohesive hangers and hooks
5. oversized mirror
6. large rug
7. wall art, knickknats, and other girly decorum
8.  amoire
9. vanity mirror and chair (for an optional makeup/dressing area)
10. lighting-chandeliers, pretty lamps, etc.
11. chaise lounge chair or ottoman

The majority of of these items can be found at home organization stores such as:
  • The Container Store
  • Target
  • Home Depot
  • Garden Ridge
  • Walmart
Don't sleep on Ebay for getting clothing store fixtures for great closeout deals. Afterall, you're creating your own personal store! Get to work, ladies. I've got tons to do.

Meet the Kardashians: Your new stylists!

The trios at the launch of their line in Hollywood

Keeping up with the Kardashians? We can't get away from them. They've made millions on capitalizing on their reality empire. And they're not stopping at just giving us full on access into their personal lives either. Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney have decided to make dressing ladies with their style flair a top-priority. In addition to their hot chained, clothing store DASH, the ladies have a new line, the "Kardashian Kollection" available at Sears. I must admit that I get my Kardashian dose a bit too often and I was thrilled to get a looksy of their line pf clothing and accessories. It really embodies all of their styles. The price tags are a bit more affordable than their high-end DASH merchandise.

Go visit www.sears.com/Kardashian-Kollection to see what these sisters have up their sleeve. Save 30% in stores and online until September 17.

Perfect Fit

Torrid knows how to fit that curvier girl!
Brown Pleather Blazer, $68.50 by Torrid
Shop Torrid stores and http://www.torrid.com/

Let me just say that I am loving this weather! Today I could breathe in fresh air, instead of smog. With the breeze comes with the need to dig out chic blazers and winter jackets out from all the madness--I mean summer clothes-- of my--I mean OUR closets. (Don't you just love how inclusive I am?) There is always that thought of "Is this thing going to zip up?" with me. I am a busty broad, but last year I spent $100 on a flimsy jacket and if that thing doesn't button up I'm going to literally scream. But before you panic about new expansions. Here's a workout that I found on http://www.prevention.com/ to banish back fat.
